Hideo Mabuchi is a Professor of Applied Physics at Stanford University.

“There is a fundamental split today between physicists who think of physics as a branch of natural philosophy, dealing with truth and reality, and those who think of physics as a branch of gambling theory, dealing with prediction and control.  I am firmly in the latter camp and believe that one of the most important keys to enabling radical progress in 21st-century engineering will be to forge a new synthesis of statistical physics, control theory, and theories of computation.”
